Cotecna Notified by MoIAT for RoHS Certification in UAE

Cotecna is proud to announce our official approval by the UAE MoIAT (Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology) as a notified body for RoHS compliance. RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances and Cotecna is therefore now able to test, inspect and issue Certificates of Conformity for RoHS compliant products like electrical appliances.

The United Arab Emirates government mandates that all regulated electrical and electronic products be certified for RoHS. This regulation aims to safeguard consumers and uphold the quality standards of electronic goods imported into the country.

RoHS regulation plays an important role in promoting the adoption of cleaner technologies and reducing the environmental impact of electronic waste. Compliance with RoHS regulations not only safeguards human health and the environment but also enhances market access and competitiveness for businesses.

Some product categories covered under this regulation include:

• Large household appliances (eg. refrigerators)
• Small household appliances (eg hairdryers)
• IT and telecommunication equipment (eg computers)
• Consumer equipment (eg. televisions)
• Lighting equipment (eg. light bulbs)
• Electrical and electronic tools (except for large-scale stationary industrial tools) (eg. drills)
• Toys, leisure and sports equipment (eg. video games)
• Medical devices (except for active implanted devices) (eg. In-vitro diagnostic medical devices like cameras) 
• Monitoring and control instruments (eg. smoke detectors)
• Automatic dispensers (eg. vending machines)

Other EEE not covered by any of the categories above that falls within the definition of EEE described above

The new notification extends the lists of product categories Cotecna is accredited for with MoIAT in the UAE. Cotecna is also notified to issue Certificates of Conformity (COC) for cosmetics, perfumes, food contact materials (FCM) and drinking water. Cotecna is also notified by GSO for GMark issuance for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances.
