On 16 May 2024 the new REG of the European Commission 2024/1328 was published, which modifies annex XVII of REG 1907/2006 regarding the use of silicone cycles D4, D5 and D6. The new regulation will affect all sectors of consumer products, and in particular finished cosmetic products.

From 6 June 2027 the maximum concentration of D5 and D6 in cosmetics will be 0,1%; whereas D4 was already banned in cosmetics as a CMR substance, the greatest impact will be in the use of D6 and especially D5, amplifying used in hair products and not only.

The restriction comes after the identification of substances as SVHC, being bio accumulative and persistent, and due to concerns of their release into the aquatic environment and the atmosphere, whose main culprits have been identified in cosmetics.

Neotron is able to detect these compounds in accordance with the new REG. 2024/1328.
