Cotecna hosts a workshop on Expanded Ethiopia PVoC
COTECNA, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (MoTRI) and the Ethiopian Conformity Enterprise (ECAE), has successfully hosted a comprehensive workshop on the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) program for importers and customs authorities on August 6th, 2024.
The workshop, held at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, was split into two distinct sessions to cater to the specific needs of the attendees. The first session, open to all invited participants, including importers and business owners, provided an in-depth overview of the newly expanded PVoC program, which now covers 11 key import categories, up from the previous sole focus on solar products.
This workshop was designed to equip importers with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the new regulations seamlessly.
The second session of the workshop was exclusively for government officials and 11 commercial banks, who discussed the challenges and potentially fraudulent activities associated with the PVoC certificates. This closed-door session allowed for open dialogue and the development of strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the program and mitigate any issues during the customs clearance process.
The workshop was well-attended, with representatives from various import sectors, including household appliances, vehicles and industrial equipment, as well as key personnel from the Ethiopian government authority. Participants praised the event for its comprehensive coverage of the PVoC program and the opportunity to engage directly with the regulatory bodies.
COTECNA, MoTRI and ECAE are committed to continuing their collaborative efforts to support importers and customs authorities in Ethiopia. In line with this, Cotecna signed a new contract earlier in May with the Ethiopian government to expand the initial PVoC Scope which was focusing solely on solar products.
